Someone at GM was certainly blazing something when they decided that a new Blazer should compete with the Jeep Cherokee and look THAT. FREAKING. UGLY. doing it, e specially with the Bronco making its return shortly, in what seems to be a form largely true to the original. They beat the new Ranger by a few years with the new Colorado, and as many as of those as I see, I’d say that’s paid off. So why not beat the Bronco to market with a REAL Blazer???

GM design meeting: “Sure it’s bland. But could we make it blander?”

I was about to say I’d hardly call it bland, but these days I guess overstyled and hideous is the norm, so you have a point.

With what they’re doing, they might as well have badge engineered the Dacia Duster.
Which is purportedly pretty good.

When this SWB minivan with conventional doors is a “Pathfinder”:
And this is an “Eclipse”:
It might just make sense.

I could sorta get the logic if this was a replacement for the Equinox, made good(for a crossover) and using a stronger name. Or even made it fun and cool and semi-capable like Jeep does with its crossovers.
As much as I’d like to see more fun BOF SUVs around I can’t really get into if it makes business sense for them, but what I cannot understand is what this adds to their current crop of crossovers, and what sales it’ll get besides cannibalizing what GM already sells.

Right. Even if BOF SUVs don’t make super business sense, it still seems like cannibalizing sales makes even less sense. And yeah, the only way a BOF one would make sense is really to upstage the forthcoming Bronco.

It is. Lede image is foreign market TrailBlazer, aka what we’ve should’ve gotten (or at least something based on that platform)

They should have put sliding rear doors on it. At least it’d be more useful if still ugly.

My sister has a ‘17 Grand Cherokee (white) that doesn’t look too bad in person. I’ll give this thing the benefit of the doubt, but it’s not looking good.

The Traverse got bigger and the Equinox got a good bit smaller when they were redone . This left space for a Murano/Edge/Santa Fe Sport competitor, which the old Equinox competed against as well as the Escape/Rouge/Tucson because it was a between size.

True, and I see why they may want to stay away from that. Like yes the 4Runner and Wrangler do sell well but not that well and the majority of the market for a midsize BOF vehicle are probably already either in one of those or a Tacoma or Colorado/Canyon. I don’t think more BOF midsize SUVs will grow the off-road enthusiast market, just give those few hundred thousand customers more options.

Yeah, I’ve seen plenty of Cherokees in person, and they’re alright, but I only see this thing looking worse than in pictures.

I was really hoping for an actual SUV, based on the Colorado frame, that you could get with a low range transfer case, cloth seats, and decent ground clearance. basically a modern S10 Blazer. I would’ve genuinely wanted that, and maybe found a way to buy one if it was reasonably priced. I’m not even remotely surprised that it’s the opposite of that, but I am disappointed.
Here’s hoping the Bronco is a different story.

The OP is writing about the international
Trailblazer sold
in South America and the Aisa Pacific. It is made in Thailand and Brazil and is based on the
Colorado.

Well, Ford has actually been doing good stuff recently, so I actually have decently high hopes for the B ronco.

The Acadia did, it’s the same size as the XT5 and now the Blazer but still offers 3 rows of seating . The Traverse and Enclave grew in size.

Im a little surprised as well. For one, is it REALLY a niche that needed to be filled? Why not just put people into an Acadia? That was the whole point of making the Acadia smaller, because the world didn’t need 3 identical 3 row crossovers from the same make.
The other question is - Do people not understand brand equity? Cherokee, pathfinder, blazer...these brands have value but only in as much as their namesakes were loved and revered.
on that note - I don’t really care. I mean they can call it what they want, its their name, their choice. it will probably be a net asset up front and thats what matters to them.
The other point, the one you are making, is that the colorado 7/trailblazer could have been a great addition to the fleet - its different, it fills a specific niche and its in a hot segment of off road SUV’s. Not to mention it could have been the only diesel 7 seat off roader. They could have done a ZR2. All SOOOO easy. oh well.

I don’t know how big the engine bay on those colorados is, but I, for one, would not be opposed to a new TBSS, either.
